Allow me to Re-Introduce Myself...

Today's sermon is from the book of Romans 1:1.

Sermon points are as follows:

1.)  Allow me to re-introduce our ROLE...

 

2.)  Allow me to re-introduce... PAIS

        A.) PAIS

           - PAIS is used 24 times

           - It could be a young boy

           - Not every PAIS was a SLAVE.

 

3.)  Allow me to re-introduce... OIKEYES.

        A.)  OIKETES

           - OIKETES is used 4 times

           - A SLAVE could fall under this category, but other’s who are NOT SLAVES could be under this category as    well

           - Not every OIKETES was a SLAVE.

 

 

4.)  Allow me to re-introduce... DIAKONOS.      

      A.)  DIAKONOS

           - DIAKONOS is used 30 times

           - Translated 20 times as MINISTER

                               7 times as SERVANT

                               3 times as DEACON

           - A DIAKONOS has NOTHING TO DO with SLAVERY.

 

5.)  Allow me to re-introduce... THERAPON.

      A.)  THERAPON

           - THERAPON is used only once

           - In the book of Hebrews denotes an ATTENDANT, or one who does the task given him by another.

           - One could be a SLAVE who is also a THERAPON, but one could also be a THERAPON and NOT BE A SLAVE.

 

6.) Allow me to re-introduce... DOULOS.

      A.)  DOULOS

           - DOULOS is used 128 times

           - In the NASB - 98 times translated SLAVE,

                                  23 times BONDSERVANT,

                                    4 times BONDSLAVE 

                                    1 time SERVANT

           - In MOST translations, 120 times, DOULOS is translated SERVANT.

       B.)  DOULOS

           - DOULOS has a much stronger meaning than just "CHOOSING TO SERVE" someone.  It really means that you are BOUND to that PERSON.

           - To be a DOULOS is to say someone has OWNERSHIP of YOU.

           - They are YOUR MASTER/LORD (KYRIOS) !!!
